Basically, using someone else's words or ideas without properly giving them credit is plagiarism. It's a form of cheating. Check your planner for the consequences of plagiarism (hint: first time's pretty mild--you get 0 on the assignment and your teacher calls your parents. It gets worse after that.)
It is from a Canadian university, so some of the information is for older students (or special for that university), but it includes REALLY good tips on how to avoid plagiarism. If you are focussed on work for English or Social Studies, you can choose the "undeclared" student when you pick your character.
